Pacific Coast Highlights, Fiji

Pacific Coast Highlights, Fiji

story by: Inspire Fiji

You knew Fijian hospitality was something special, but you weren’t expecting someone to literally walk over white-hot stones for you. The legendary firewalkers of Beqa Island are just one of the eyeopening attractions you’ll experience in Pacific Harbour, two hours east of Nadi. You can tour a traditional Fijian village by boat and see fearsome warriors battle for their lives at the Cultural Centre, and enjoy singing, dancing and storytelling at the Arts Village. Raft through deep gorges amid lush rainforest, surf world-famous reef breaks and try game-fishing. For downtime flop on a beautiful sandy beach and contemplate a round on an 18-hole golf course, considered one of the best in Fiji. Pacific Harbour is referred to as Fiji’s adventure capital: you’re just relieved there’s been ample excitement without following in the footsteps of those firewalkers

• BEQA LAGOON – Just off-shore from Pacific Harbour, it’s world- famous for its spectacular soft corals. You’ll see schools of reef fish here and the occasional sharks investigating nooks and crannies.

• FIRE WALKING – Watch in awe as men from the local Beqa Island pluck up enough courage to walk barefoot on white hot stones. No need to make the trip out to Beqa Island though, as the firewalkers perform in the different hotels in the region.

• YANUCA ISLAND – Located in Beqa Lagoon, this compact and beautiful lush island is known for its lovely beaches and the world class surf breaks at Frigate’s Passage just a short boat haul away – for the serious surfer!

• FISHING – Fishing at Beqa Lagoon is great for everyone, year round. Troll for the adrenaline rush and experience the thrill of fighting with a yellow fin tuna. There’s a number of charter operators with big fast boats and excellent equipment ensuring your hunt is a successful one!

• RAFTING DOWN THE NAVUA RIVER – Become a local and enjoy a smooth thrilling ride down the Navua River on a bilibili raft (HMS Bilibili). Raft past villages, farm lands, pristine tropical rainforests, deep gorges and canyons, meandering rapids and cascading waterfalls. This is the way to discover and enjoy Fijian culture at its best!

• THE ARTS VILLAGE – Watch Fijian actors dressed in traditional attire carry out mock battles and there’s also firewalking and meke shows. The village located at Pacific Harbour is definitely worth a visit and attached to the Arts Village are some eateries and souvenir shops, so a pleasant spot to kill an hour or so.
