Canada: Exploring by Rail & Coach

story by: Inspire Canada & Alaska

The sheer scale of Canada can be daunting, however by planning your itinerary to include either rail or coach or a combination of both, you will be amazed at what you get to see and do. On Rocky Mountaineer trains you can enjoy the awe inspiring landscapes out the large picture or domed windows while listening to the commentary from the comfort of your seat with impeccable service by your onboard attendant. VIA Rail is Canada’s national train network spanning the entire country and offering either point to point services or passes with the romance of traditional train travel in three classes of service. You can stay on-board for any overnight route on VIA Rail. By coach there are many independent tours where you can add-on sightseeing, activities or extra nights. You travel through scenery unique to each mode of transport.
Just want to visit 1 or 2 cities? The point to point fares may be all that is required. VIA Rail offer a wide range of point to point fares with a choice of economy or business class seating on most sectors which can be prereserved before you leave home to avoid disappointment. Point to point fares also offer greater vailability than a pass during peak seasons. VIA Rail operates up to 500 trains weekly on 12,500kms of track, and serving 450 communities across the country. From coast to coast and north to Hudson Bay, you can experience unforgettable scenery including some that can only be seen by train as you crisscross your way through Canada.
If you require complete access to the VIA Rail network, the Canrail Pass gives you unlimited travel in Canada on the VIA Rail network from the Atlantic to the Pacific and up to Hudson Bay. Travel between 12 and 15 days during a 30 day period with unlimited stops. At additional cost, sleeper berths and private cabins are available. The 10 day Corridor Pass is perfect for travel from Toronto to Québec City with stops at Ottawa, Montréal and Niagara Falls. The Canadian travels from coast to peaks and plains to lakes. The journey between Vancouver and Toronto takes 4 days including 5 Provinces, or combine with your favourite way of seeing the Rockies, then hop on at Jasper and journey to Edmonton or Saskatoon or Winnipeg and on to Toronto.
