Lima, Peru South America

story by: Inspire South America

It was the Spanish conquistadors Francisco Pizarro who established Lima in the 16th century. Once known as the City of Kings it was for two centuries the colonial capital of a vast region. But, by the 18th century and after a devastating earthquake, Lima lost its place at the heart of the Spanish empire. Today, only a few reminders of those glory days live on in Lima but the city does have some superb museums that provide an ideal introduction to the art and archaeological sites to be found elsewhere in the country. In the evenings the city pulsates with music in districts such as Miraflores.
