Perth and Perthshire, Scotland

story by: Inspire UK & Ireland

Situated in the very heart of Scotland, Perthshire represents the perfect place to find all that you expect of a great Scottish holiday. Most of Perthshire is little more than one hour by road or rail from Glasgow or Edinburgh, but can very much feel like  a world apart.

There are several towns and villages that make up the region of Perthshire. Notably Loch Tay and Glen Lyon, Auchterarder, Gleneagles and the Ochils, Blairgowrie and East Perthshire, Crieff, Comrie and Strathearn, Dunkeld and Birnam, Kinross-shire and Loch Leven, the Fair City of Perth, Pitlochry and Highland Perthshire, and some of the most scenic Scottish glens.

If you are lucky enough to be in Perthshire in spring and summer, make sure you take some walking shoes so you can discover why this beautiful region is known as ‘Big Tree Country’. Perthshire is home of the tallest trees, widest conifer and tallest hedge in Britain.

While out walking you can use some of the 250 miles of waymarked paths to get to the Roman camps, medieval castles and whisky distilleries where you can spend a great day out discovering all about the detailed history.

Once of the top things to do in this stunning region is to venture into the hills and mountains of the Cairngorms National Park in Highland Perthshire to see the wildlife - head out with a guide to learn more about the animals and see the best sights. In winter on a snowy year, you can even ski up in the Cairngorms area!

Once you’ve soaked up the stunning scenery of outdoor Perthshire, head into the city to find shops, cafes, restaurants, art galleries and theatres. Framed by two grand public parks and the striking Tay Street promenade, Perth is a lovely city offering the best in shopping, nightlife and culture.
