London, England - Highlights

story by: Inspire UK & Ireland

  • Markets - Like many European cities, London is full of markets, many of which date back to medieval times.  From fruit and vege stalls through to high end antiques, there are bargains to be found all over town.  Some of our favourites are the Borough Food Market, Camden Market and Portobello Road market.  To help you plan your visit speak to one of our House of Travel specialists.
  • West End Theatre - No trip is complete without at least one night out in London’s famous West End ‘Theatreland’.  Here you can see all the top musicals like Phantom of the Opera, We will Rock you, Wicked and many more.
  • Shopping - Spend time in Oxford Street and pop down to Harrods, then wander down Sloane Street and peer into the windows of Gucci, Dior or Versace and grabe a coffee before heading to Kings Road in Chelsea where you will be sure to pickup a bargain.
  • Museums - London has some of the world’s best museums.  The Museum of London is worth a visit before heading to South Kensington to the Science Museum and the Natural History museum.  Westminster houses the Imperial War Museum and you can find the Royal Air Force Museum in Hendon and the Royal Artillery Museum in Woolwich.  There are also Art Museums and of course the Tate Britain for some of the world’s finest classic and modern art collections.
  • Historic Sights - The city is full of historic monuments and buildings.  Four of our favourites are: The Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace and the Royal Observatory.  Each epitomizes England’s wealth; power an architectural prowess during their respective historical periods.
  • Holiday Snaps - Get your photo taken in front of Parliament and Big Ben.  Did you know that the world’s most famous clock tower isn’t actually called Big Ben but St Stephen’s tower - Big Ben is simply the name of the largest bell inside the tower!
  • Thames River - Cross the Thames via Tower Bridge - not to be confused with London Bridge - then cross back again via the Millennium Bridge.
