Glasgow, Scotland - Highlights

Glasgow, Scotland - Highlights

story by: Inspire UK & Ireland

  • Sauchiehall Street is one of the main shopping streets in Glasgow and extends a good few kilometres with bars, restaurants and great high street shopping.  Spend some hours exploring this area and shopping up a storm.
  • The West End of Glasgow can offer a different side of this great city. This is the place the trendy locals hang out and there are several small cobblestone alleyways hidden behind the main streets which provide access to pumping nightspots, restaurants and bars.  Our favourite is Aston Lane where you can have a wee dram at the ‘wee chip’ before popping next door to the up market Scottish restaurant the ‘Ubiquitous Chip’.
  • Buchanan Galleries in Buchanan Street in Glasgow is a large shopping mall filled with a mixture of amazing shops. From high street to high fashion, everything you need is located in this centre and its only a few steps from all the main transport options.
  • Royal Troon and Ayrshire. Glasgow is just a short 40 minutes by car or Train to the Royal Troon golf course (and over 20 other golf courses) in Ayrshire.  Located in the seaside town of Troon, the Royal is a ‘must do’ for golf fans or those who simply want to experience playing a round on the blustery West Coast of Scotland. Green fees are not cheap and can run into the hundreds of pounds, but it’s a once in a lifetime experience!  If golfing isn’t your thing, it’s still worth a trip to Troon to experience this delightful lowlands seaside town.
  • Loch Lomond - You probably remember the refrains of Runrig signing ‘you’ll take the high road and I’ll take the low road and I’ll be in Scotland afore yee’ - well this song is all about the spectacular Loch Lomond.  This Loch, just north of Glasgow City will transport you to another world, of monsters and fairies and The Gaelic and is worth a visit on a day when you’ve got a bit of time and some decent footwear for a walk.
