Italian Lakes Self Drive

7 Days/6 Nights

People have been holidaying on the Italian lakes since Roman times and it certainly hasn't’t got any less popular.  There is a very good reason for this of course - the sights are magical.  Mountains descending to meet the lake shore, flower filled islands,, stately villas, baroque palaces and gardens dominating pretty picture-perfect lakeside towns.

Day 1: Venice - Gardone Riviera, Lake Garda.  Stop in Romeo and Juliet’s Verona to check out the Roman arena before reaching Italy’s biggest lake.

Day 2: Lake Garda.  Spend the day exploring around the lake, you can easily circumnavigate it in a day.

Day 3: Lake Garda - Como, Lake Como.  Como is a lively town with a lovely old town centre sitting on the shores at the southern end of the lake,

Day 4: Lake Como. Explore the shores of Lake Como and if you fancy, cross the boarder into Switersland. Lugano is only a 30 minute drive.

Day 5: Como - Stresa, Lake Maggiore.  Next is the lovely town of Stresa with beautiful villas and gardens - some of which are open to the public.

Day 6: Lake Maggiore.  Take a cruise to the Borromean Islands, they have beautiful gardens and tiny settlements.

Day 7: Stresa - Milan.

Highlights worth seeing along the way:

  • Views - head up the cable car in Stresa for fabulous views of the alps and the lake.
  • Sirmione - A pretty town with a moated castle.
