8 reasons to sail with Regent Seven Seas

By Anna Sarjeant - House of Travel

Just when you thought modern cruising was so far removed from the golden age of sailing, no one even packed a string of pearls anymore, Regent Seven Seas delivers enough polished marble to cover a kingdom, and more chandeliers than Buckingham Palace (probably, we need to ask Her Majesty).

If you crave opulence, then you deserve to cruise with Regent Seven Seas.

1. Intimate small ship sailing
Regent’s fleet of four elegant ships were designed to accommodate hundreds, rather than thousands, resulting in a refreshingly refined atmosphere. Quiet and conservative, you won’t find over-crowding at the restaurants, swimming pools, or even while you wait for the lift.

HOT hint: How many other guests would you prefer to sail with?

  • Seven Seas Explorer® - 750 guests
  • Seven Seas Voyager® - 700 guests
  • Seven Seas Mariner®  - 700 guests
  • Seven Seas Navigator® - 490 guests

2. Unprecedented elegance
Regent Seven Seas boast a stellar line-up of six-star ships. The latest beauty to join the fleet is Seven Seas Explorer, said to be "the most luxurious cruise ship ever built", she joined the Regent family in 2016. Featuring hundreds of crystal chandeliers, nearly an acre of marble, some 2500 artworks, including pieces by Chagall and Picasso, the Explorer will impress at every venue; from the well-polished library to the teak-decked balconies in every state room. Even if you decide to sail with the Explorer’s three sister ships, you’re guaranteed excellence. Every vessel enjoyed a glamorous revamp in 2014.

HOT hint: If you thought it was just the library books that were leather-bound, think again. Sail aboard the Explorer and marvel at the chocolate-coloured leather floor tiles in the library.

3. All-inclusive pricing
For holiday makers who like to pay an upfront price and not worry about any hidden extras while they’re away, Regent Seven Seas is perfect. Your fare includes unlimited shore experiences, fine dining in gourmet restaurants, all gratuities, taxes and service charges. Even the drinks are complimentary. Enjoy hand-picked wines, premium spirits, Champagne and an in-suite mini-bar which is restocked every day.

HOT hint: Allow your EFTPOS to gather dust in your wallet, it’s not needed in these parts.

Regent Cruise Dining Room

4. The finest of fine dining
With Seven Seas you’re truly in for a gourmet treat. Renowned for its five-star cuisine, Regent serve distinguished meals in luxurious settings at no extra cost. The liner also go out of their way to source ingredients from the countries your ship is visiting, so the fare is always in line with the local experience. For that added sprinkle of decadence, choose to sail with Seven Seas Explorer. It’s estimated 2,000 pounds of lobster are consumed during a 14-night Explorer cruise – and it’s all served on Versace-designed tablewear.

HOT hint: In terms of dress code, we recommend casual by day and casual elegance by night. Formal and semi formal dress code is optional on sailings of 16 nights or longer.

Regent-Cruise Atrium

5. Two staff for every three guests
We did the maths (actually we didn’t but Google did) and the crew-to-passenger ratio is approximately 1.36. With a generous team of international staff, no guest need is left unfulfilled. Service is attentive and perfectly executed, with plenty of additional perks such as 24-hour room service and in-suite dining.

HOT hint: Choose a Penthouse Suite (or higher) and you’ll also benefit from a personal butler-service. From running baths to on-board errands, you’ll want for nothing.

Which make the biggest difference. Such as L’Occitane amenities in all suite categories and if you’re staying in the Penthouse Suites or above, Hermès toiletries and a complimentary iPad. On-board activities are included in the price and range from world-renowned guest lecturers to shows created by award-winning directors. As well as food workshops and tastings for the wine aficionados.

8. The Spotlight program
Wherever your interests lie, whether they be in antiques, cuisine, classical art, photography, theatre or music, Regent’s Spotlight Program sources experts from around the world to present on-board lectures and informative classes. They can also escort you off the ship to deliver an expert-led guided tour.

HOT hint: If you’re travelling with family or a small posse, take full advantage of the ‘Regent Choice’ excursions, which have been designed specifically for a smaller group of guests. A small fee applies but it does make for a lovely intimate tour experience.
