Colmar, France

DID THIS TOWN INSPIRE BEAUTY AND THE BEAST?

Causing quite the stir for any avid Disney fan, it's believed (yet unconfirmed) that the little town of Colmar, in north-east France was the inspiration behind Belle's hometown in Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

A small provincial French city, Colmar was founded in the 9th century and still boasts many of its original, and very romantic features. Considered one of the best preserved townships in Europe, it's well worth a visit whether you're a Disney fan or not.

The Barkley Marathons
THE ULTRAMARATHON NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT
During the 25 years in which the little-known Barkley Marathons have been running, only 10 people have completed the course. Quite possibly the most gruelling ultramarathon in the world, each year 35 participants from across the globe descend on the little Tennessee town of Wartburg to partake in the 100 miles (160 km) run.

There is a catch though. The marathon must be completed within 60 hours. Of course, if you'd prefer to have a crack at the 'fun run', that one's only 60 miles (97 km) in 60 hours. Easy.

Put it on you USA agenda. With these cheap US flights, there's no reason not to.

MariCar, a company independent of Nintendo, started the venture to allow fans of the iconic video game live out their number one Mario fantasy. But you'll have to be quick: Nintendo don't seem too happy about it.
