Anaheim is one of those funny, rare places where it’s almost impossible to keep from grinning like a halfwit from dawn ‘til dusk.

Watch and see: you’ll be cruising through Huntington, Newport and Laguna Beaches in an old-fashioned “woody”-style surf bus and catch a glimpse of some hopelessly happy person in the window, only to
realise it’s your own reflection. Or you’ll be bullied into having your photo taken with a life-size version of a Disney character at one of the theme parks, but the final result will show an ear-to-ear smile.

For a taste of Americana, be sure to take in a baseball or hockey game, but be warned: even here, the happiness is infectious - where else but Anaheim could an ice hockey team called the Mighty Ducks be taken seriously!? If sports aren’t your thing, spend a couple of days getting lost at the Block at Orange – a giant shopping and entertainment complex that’s guaranteed to keep that smile in place a little longer.

Insider Insights Anaheim theme park ride

" Make sure you try a Churro snack from one of the street vendors at a theme park. Fried and sprinkled in
sugar – yum!"
Lisa Sherman

"If you are like me and look for good quality American fare - try out Ruby’s. Ruby’s is an authentic
1940’s diner at Newport Beach. Inside you’ll find a fully retro decor, from the red vinyl booths to the uniformed waitresses! Make sure you try one of their awesome milkshakes. They also have a diner at Huntington Beach."
