Greece offers an almost bewildering array of destinations; Athens of course and other mainland treasures from the spectacular Meteora monasteries and mythical Delphi. These alone are enough to entice visitors but then Greece is synonymous with islands – from historysteeped Crete, awe-inspiring Santorini and windmill-studded Mykonos. These are quintessential Greek islands but there are other gems scattered across the Mediterranean Sea and beyond the most popular tourist routes. Whether you are island-hopping or exploring the byways of Athens, you will find welcoming Greeks, and the warm hospitality of their many restaurants. Feast on freshly caught fish, grilled lamb and stuffed vine leaves and sweet, delicious baklava. Sip coffee in a harbour-side café as the fishing boats come into port, amble along country roads while families gather their olives and pat donkeys on their way to village markets with baskets laden with fresh tomatoes.
