Experience Denarau Island

Once upon a time there was a place called Denarau. Just a hop, skip and a jump from Nadi Airport (20 minutes, to be more precise), it was little more than a marina that served as a jumping off spot to the islands. Sure, there was a world class 18-hole golf course, but if you weren’t into golf, there was little point in sticking around longer than it took for the next ferry to show up.

How times have changed! Nowadays Denarau is home to at least six world-class resorts in prime beachfront locations, all with amazing facilities like lagoon-style swimming pools, fine dining restaurants and luxury spas. Add to this the Denarau Marina shopping centre and nearby Nadi town for a little retail therapy and you’ve got a great self-contained holiday experience.

Of course, you don’t have to sacrifice the classic Fiji island experience if you stay on Denarau: take a day trip to one of the nearby islands or enjoy a romantic sunset dinner cruise and you’ll get the full fairytale experience.

Insider Insights

“Such a short distance from Airport to pool to cocktails! Just great for those wanting to start their holiday
pronto! I was struck by the huge variety of quality hotels, restaurants and cafés. We stopped at Fiji’s very own Hard Rock Café - a great place to enjoy a Fiji Bitter and a Hickory-Smoked Bar-B-Que Combo!”
Odette Longhurst

“We took a Day trip from the Marina and enjoyed a day island-hopping to the white sandy beaches of the
offshore islands like some of our favourites - Mana, Treasure and Castaway Islands”
Jaimee Raymond

“If you’re wanting something totally unique and exhilarating – Hot Air Ballooning. You’ve got to get up
really early, in the dark, but it’s worth it for the hour that you are ballooning peacefully over Fiji’s hills, valleys and coastline. In the words of one of the highly experienced pilots “if you only ever take one balloon ride, it should be here!”
Joanna McGrath

“Denarau is a stretch of first class resorts all with beachfront locations. You can stay at any one of these
properties and have the huge range of restaurants available to you from the other resorts. We stayed at the Sofitel but one evening strolled down the beach to have a cocktail and watch the sunset in the Radisson Resort’s Nautilus bar overlooking the ocean.”
Bridget Fogarty

“The drinking of Kava is a common ceremonial and social custom in Fiji and although joining a group around the
kava bowl in a Fijian village is a fascinating experience some know-how is required. Make sure you listen to the village people explain the protocol!"
