Less than an hour’s drive from Melbourne is the picturesque Yarra Valley. One of the world’s great wine-growing regions, renowned for its pinot noir and sparkling wines, the Yarra compliments its wonderful vintages with a mouth-watering array of local produce.

Many vineyard restaurants showcase their finest wines with the best in home-grown foods or tour the farmers’ markets and create your own delectable picnic. The valley and the picturesque forested Dandenong Ranges nearby also have a growing reputation for their spa resorts.

Along with these relaxing retreats is a wealth of boutique accommodation from luxury hotels to historic homes and romantic cottages tucked in the forest. One of the best places to get up close and personal with Australia’s unique animals is at the Healesville Sanctuary where more than 200 species, including koala and platypus, live in natural bush settings.
