Langkawi Travel Guide

Situated 20 kilometres off the northeast coast of Malaysia, Langkawi is the main island in a group of 104.

It is renowned for its relaxed atmosphere and blessed with many natural features: stunning waterfalls, tropical jungles and pristine white sandy beaches. Langkawi is a great place to really chill out, relax and let all the stresses of your regular life disappear.

This resort island is largely undeveloped; the main township is Kuah Town together with the Langkawi Yacht Club is worth a visit, but don’t expect a central shopping hub. The main resort beach is Pantai Centang, a long stretch of beach dotted with resorts, chalets, restaurants and bars. At low tide a sandbar appears that allows you to get a close up view of the marine life. Round the headland, south of here, is the slightly quieter Pantai Tenagh and heading further north is Pantai Kok, a beautiful stretch of beach surrounded by limestone cliffs.

On the northern tip of the Island is Tanjung Rhu Beach, also known as Casuarina Beach because of its Casuarina trees instead of the usual palms and coconuts. Tanjung Rhu Beach is sheltered by the curve of the bay and, with its shallow waters, it’s an ideal protected swimming location.

For a bit of local sightseeing from Pantai Kok, go inland several kilometres to Telaga Tujah Waterfalls, or for a great day trip, go to the idyllic Payer Island Marine Park, south of the island. If you are looking for a peaceful relaxing holiday, you will not be disappointed with Langkawi.
