Koh Samui

Koh Samui Travel Guide

A tropical island paradise, Koh Samui was first a backpacker’s destination in the late 70’s.

Today, tourists from the world over go to this easygoing paradise located in the Gulf of Siam and surrounded by more than sixty other islands. Two of the better known being Koh Phangan - the party island and Koh Tao - the divers island.

Chaweng, a seven kilometre long beach is the most well-known and developed of the island’s beaches. Packed with restaurants, shops and an active nightlife Chaweng is a busy area with resorts all along the beachfront and surrounding area. Watersports enthusiasts rate this area as second to none - its all available here.

Lamai Beach just south of Chaweng is a little less crowed. Be charmed by the casual dining and relaxed bars. North of Chaweng is Bo Phut Beach, fast gaining a reputation for up market accommodation away from the crowds, yet close enough to the action of Chaweng when you choose to visit.

For total relaxation, head to the north of the island where the Paradise Beach Resort is on the secluded Mae Nam Bay.

As well as the beaches, Koh Samui’s interior, local people and surrounding islands offer excellent excursions. Filled with coconut plantations, rice paddies and some lovely waterfalls, allow time to explore this beautiful island beyond its coastline.

A day trip to the neighbouring islands or swimming with the marine life in the Ang Thong National Marine Park is well worth the trip, even if it’s just to lie on the beach.
