The Pantanal the largest wetlands in the world was one of the highlight’s of Lynne’s trip in South America.
The Transpantaneira Highway starts 1.5 hours from Cuiaba Airport, it is a one way dirt road of 142km, where Lynne and Gary stayed at lodges along the way. During the dry season (May – September) is the recommended time to travel to the Pantanal for wildlife viewing - they saw numerous animals including caiman, capybara, giant and lesser anteaters, giant otter, howler monkeys, toucan, macaw, jaibaru stork and many other species of bird life.
“A fantastic experience including 4WD trips, piranha fishing, afternoon boat trip to feed the piranha we caught to the caiman, horseback riding and a sunrise canoe trip.”
Another fabulous highlight was Iguazu Falls, a must do is the boat trip under the falls, there is absolutely no chance of staying dry, but it is exhilarating. A tour of both sides of the falls is recommended, on the Argentinean side you are ‘part of the picture’ on the Brazilian side you ‘see the picture’.
