Itinerary
Day 1: Pescara – Fossacesia – Maiella National Park – Pennapiedimonte – Guardiagrele
Enjoy a scenic drive along the Adriatic coastline to Fossacesia, marvel at the ‘trabocchi’ (ancient fishing structures). Visit the 11th century church of S. Giovanni, enjoy an Italian coffee in the village of San Vito, arrive at your accommodation in the Apennines for a rustic lunch. Visit local artisans and shops on a private walking tour of Guardiagrele. After your 4 course degustation dinner, indulge in a private wine and olive oil tasting.
Day 2: Cooking class
Learn all about the differences between olive oils, head to a local winery to see how the traditional and modern techniques combine to produce Abruzzo wines. Continue to the local cheesemaker for tastings of fresh ricotta and giuncata cheeses. This afternoon in your cooking class prepare a 4 course dinner using local ingredients. Learn the secrets of slow food and be serenaded by an international tenor.
Day 3: Casoli – Roccascalegna – Palombaro
Understand how truffle dogs are used and enjoy tastings of truffle pastes, cheeses infused with truffle and truffle honey. Soak up the village atmosphere in Casoli and browse through colourful stalls. After a leisurely lunch, explore the castle of Roccascalegna.
Day 4: Maiella National Park – Pescara
On your high alpine walk along the shepherd’s tracks, glimpse flocks of sheep and goats, see ancient limestone gorges. In Pescara visit the colourful markets, stroll, shop or sit back with a gelato and take it all in.
